Replacement of piping under the Peter Lougheed Bridge (the Bridge to Nowhere) over the Athabasca River, north of Fort McMurray. Project included a section of piping underground, running through a wetland area.
Replacement of 30 inch diameter with 36 inch diameter line, within the tight confines between the steel girders under the bridge. The piping had to be removed and installed into the bridge in sections under 4 meters long in order to fit between the bracing supporting the bridge girders. A total of over 120 welds would be required to install the pipe under the bridge.
